Support the Arlington Mercury
We at the Arlington Mercury believe there is room for better journalism in Arlington. We believe in journalism that gets into neighborhoods and talks about issues. We believe in strong, multimedia storytelling on a platform that is easy and inviting to read.
We also believe we can do this in Arlington as a nonprofit company.
But for that, we need your help.
Please consider donating to the Arlington Community News Lab, the nonprofit corporation that produces the Mercury. The money you spend will pay for website maintenance, podcasting and emailing services, and income and travel stipends for the Mercury staff. (We go to a lot of meetings and spend money on metrocards and parking fees.)
On our donation page, you may use your paypal account or any major credit card. Any payment size is accepted, but we are hoping you’ll donate $15 or more. That small amount of money can go a long way to supporting great journalism in Arlington.
No matter your donation, we will send you an oval “Merc” sticker to thank you.
One last note: the Arlington Community News Lab is a nonprofit corporation registered in Virginia. We have applied for tax-exempt 501(c)3 status with the IRS. In the next month, or so, the IRS tells us they will be formalizing new rules to cover the tax-exempt status for news outlets like the Mercury. A couple months from then, the IRS should rule on our status. If they agree that we fit the new rules, donations made this year will be tax-deductible. However, we do not know about our status yet.
Don’t want to spend money?
You can still help by telling friends about the Mercury, “Liking” our Facebook page and following us on Twitter (@arlingtonmerc).
Please, tell your friends about the Mercury and help keep this grand experiment going.
