Arlington Yupette reported Sunday that Melissa Bondi is having trouble with her federal taxes and had a lien placed against her to the tune of over $19,000.

We contacted Bondi yesterday, and last night, this is what she wrote to us:

Thanks for your message. I was shocked and thoroughly concerned to learn via blog posts about a tax lien apparently filed against me several months ago for the tax years 2005 and 2006.  I had no knowledge of this lien, and I believe this is either a misunderstanding between the IRS and me or an error on the part of the IRS. As soon as I learned about this issue, I began to take immediate action. I spent today, both on the phone and in person with IRS personnel, trying to find out as much as possible about this issue and have formally requested copies of tax records IRS has for me and any correspondence the IRS may have sent. I am committed to learning exactly what led to this situation and am working diligently to ensure I am fully in good standing with the IRS.

Thanks again.

Voters Spoke

This caucus was a lesson: if you don't pay taxes (fed & local), & you're not going to answer questions fully, then don't run for office.
Question: why didn't local pols ask her to quit the race once they knew she didn't play by the rules (Ferguson/Tejada/Zimmerman)?
Comment: this was a strange process--why did we have to sign a "pledge" to vote? It's still a secret ballot system, right?
Last Question: is it time Arlington gets some 2nd or 3rd parties involved in its government? I don't think Bondi (et al)would have been allowed to get as far as she/they did if we had a more balanced system.

Hmmmmm

The lien was signed by one of Paulie Ferguson's deputies...as you can see from Arlington Yupette (click to enlarge)..

Anger Without Vitriol

Here at the Merc, we have not totally solidified our comments guidelines, but we reserve the right to pull anything libelous, and some comments have drawn close or slipped over the line. I understand the questions and anger, but I know that commentators can also express anger without the personal attacks. That's the site I'd like to run.

Bondi: more tax cheating

Bondi has not registered her "consulting" business with the County. Given that she ignored the requirement for registration, has she paid the business license tax or the business personal property tax? Has she applied for zoning clearance for her "consulting" business?

Why should anyone vote for her when she fails to comply Arlington County laws?

Tax Cheat Bondi

How does one overlook $19,000 owed to the IRS? More non-answers from the slick candidate.
