The Ballston Business Improvement District celebrated its first year of existence with a meeting at the Arlington Gateway hotel on June 21.
The role of the BID is to represent businesses within the neighborhood. It hosts events such as the Taste of Arlington, and represents owner's interests with the county board.
“We see an incredible opportunity here to harvest Ballston’s intellectual power. The BID will seek ways to further support and promote this creative, collaborative environment and encourage organizations to start up and grow in Ballston," said Tina Leone in a statement. She is the executive director of the BID.
“Innovation is the spirit of Ballston. We have an amazing concentration and synergy of science, education, technology, and entrepreneurial organizations such as DARPA, NSF, the Office of Naval Research, Accenture, and Virginia Tech. Arlington is proud to be the home of so many such organizations that literally change the world. And in Ballston, so much of this happens within just a 5 block radius!," said county board vice chair Walter Tejada, in a statement.
