The Beautification Committee of Arlington County recognized four communities with Landscape Awards at the county board recessed meeting last week.

Anyone can nominate a property for the committee's consideration, said Lola Rogers, the committee chair. She told the Arlington County board that the awards are a cooperative effort between the beautification committee and the county’s Department of Parks and Recreation. The committee considers the use of plants, trees, shrubs, hard scape such as paths, the use of native plants and other landscape concepts when they make awards.

"We hope that this landscape recognition effort will encourage Arlingtonians to make the county an even more special place to live,” Rogers said to the board. After the meeting, she added that she would love to see more properties involved since the ultimate end is a better environment throughout the county.

Board Chair Mary Hynes said she sees three of the four properties regularly, adding "I can attest to how beautiful they are."
