Jocelyn Somerville (left) researched animal care for her senior project at Wakefield High School. In the process, she passed a 400-question exam to win certification as a professional pet sitter. She hopes to pursue animal-assisted therapy in college. Her friend Dominique Cross researched the field of special education, making many friendships along the way. The project "helped me to better my knowledge and relationships with kids with disabilities," she said.
Sarah Heisey has created a website of resources for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender youth. The website has resources, forums and other help. It covers the D.C. area, Florida and Ohio now. It is "complete, but it needs more resources," she said.
Marcus Tucker started the Wakefield Writers Guild at the high school because he was looking to do something more than just classwork. "I want to keep on doing this," he said. The group aims toward publishing creative work through seminars and critiquing.
