I just got word from the county public relations department that the county did not discuss sales of parks or community centers or of selling naming rights to those. "This is how rumors get started!" Diana Sun wrote in an email this morning. Sun works in the county's office of communications.
The county board held a work session with senior staff on Wednesday March 20, "to discuss the 2013 Management and Planning Work Plan, long range issues and to explore new ideas and processes to approaching difficult decisions," according to an emailed announcement.
Since then, the Mercury has received comments (unpublished) about a county sale of park land. This morning we received a question from another reader about it, and thought we should take a look.
Sun said that the meeting was a chance for county leadership to discuss ideas outside of the day-to-day grind.
"These are important opportunities for informal, strategic discussions between the leadership. It’s unfortunate that the session was mischaracterized so badly," Sun wrote.
More info if events warrant.
